What is Kalāsangama?

Across deserts, mountains, and ancient trade routes, stories traveled through movement.

Kalāsangama is inspired by the breathtaking murals of the Mogao Caves along the Silk Road — where celestial dancers, musicians, guardians, lotus motifs, and Buddhist stories still live on through art painted over a thousand years ago.
In this production, We will explore Buddhist Jataka tales through Dunhuang dance, Bharatanatyam, and Karanas. The production brings to life the shared artistic heritage of two of the world's oldest civilizations. Inspired by Buddhist Jātaka tales and the murals of the Mogao Caves, Kalāsangama reveals how dance, music, philosophy, and spirituality traveled across Asia, shaping artistic traditions that continue to inspire today.

More than a performance, Kalāsangama is a celebration of intercultural dialogue and shared humanity. Through live performances, artist talks, and educational workshops, the project invites audiences to discover the deep historical connections between India and China while fostering greater appreciation for the power of cultural exchange through the arts.
